Ballyvarley senior Hurlers made it two wins from two after another brilliant, battling performance away to East Belfast on a score line of Ballyvarley 2-16 East Belfast 2-11.
In a tit for tat first half, scores from play were hard to come by for either side, however, early scores from play from Rope McShane and Harrison Lennon kept Ballyvarley in touch. A sucker punch goal 10 minutes before the half give East Belfast a foothold in the game, however, Ballyvarley never folded and fortunately Harrison Lennon's free taking accuracy continued from the week before as he hit 6 points from frees in the first half.
At the halftime whistle East Belfast led by 2 points, 1-8 to 0-9.
In the second half, Ballyvarley got a strong foothold in the game thanks again to another great performance from the defence and midfield who launched constant good supply of ball into the forward line. However, a goal against the run of play put East Belfast 4 up and things could have looked ominous for Ballyvarley. However, a ball played out of defence was caught brilliantly by Brogan Brackenbury who turned his man and buried the sliothar into the back of net to put Ballyvarley right back into contention.
A second goal soon followed as a great long range strike from Conor Comiskey found it's way into the net and despite stringent protests from full forward Michael Lennon, who claimed to have got a touch- the Dubious Goals Committee reviewed the video evidence and have confirmed the goal to go into the record books as Conor Comiskey's first Senior Hurling goal.
Ballyvarley pushed on from here and further excellent scores from Conor Comiskey and Harrison Lennon pushed the Ballyvarley lead out to 6 points.
However, an East Belfast purple patch was inevitable and they hit 3 points on the bounce to leave only 3 points in it with time running out. Once again there were late heroics from our defence and from goalkeeper Eoghan Devine, who made an excellent one on one save to deny East Belfast an equaliser.
Louis Murray and Harrison Lennon scored the insurance points as the game entered injury time and Ballyvarley were able to hold on for an impressive 5 point win to maintain their 100% start to the season.
