Aghaderg Make It Two Wins From Two

Date Filed: 18 May 2022

Aghaderg travelled to local neighbours St Michael’s in Magheralin on Friday evening.
The game was nip & tuck for most of the first half with Aghaderg keeping their noses in front the whole time. When Aghaderg attacked with purpose they were able to cut through the St Michael’s defence and took some well worked points and a goal from Michael Lennon.

St Michael’s relied heavily on counter-attacks and had some success with this with several well taken points and a goal of their own. Aghaderg continued to get goal chances and despite hitting the net a second time with a fine goal from Michael Fitzpatrick, they were unlucky on a few other occasions with the St Michael’s keeper making some good saves. The second Aghaderg goal late in the second half meant Aghaderg went in 5 ahead at half time.

Half-time:
St Michael's 1-6 Aghaderg 2-8

The second half did not start well for Aghaderg with St Michael’s getting an early goal through a high ball in. This gave the home side a real lift and great belief and they went in search of another goal. The Aghderg back line battled hard putting in last ditch tackles on a number of occasions to keep St Michael’s out. When the ball was worked forward, Aghaderg kept the score-board ticking over with some fine points from distance but will have been disappointed not to have converted even more.

In the end, Aghaderg finished with a 3-point winning margin to make it two wins out of two to start the 2022 league campaign.

Final Score:
St Michael's 2-10 Aghaderg 2-13.
