U16 CAMOGS COME UNSTUCK IN CASTLEWELLAN

Date Filed: 30 September 2020

Castlewellan 3-9 Aghaderg 1-3

Aghaderg U16 Camogie team were edged out, on Saturday, by a strong Castlewellan team in a game full of incident. The problems began when the official referee was unable to attend and it is never a good situation when the official from one of the participating teams is given the unenviable role of calling the shots in a highly competitive game, and Aghaderg felt they had some grievances.

Aghaderg began well and Rona-May Grew had the ball in the back of the net in the opening minute and we were ready for more of the same. However, Aghaderg seemed out of sorts in that opening half and were never to threaten again as Castlewellan took control and led by 0-6 to 1-0 at half time.

Aghaderg improved in the second period and points from Naoimh McGrath(2) and Claire Morgan brought them back into contention but they were unable to convert the many half chances they created and a very able Castlewellan side ran out deserving winners by
3-9 to 1-3.

Next Saturday the girls play Ballycran at home in their final Championship group game.

Throw-in is at 1pm.
