GAME OF 3 HALVES

Date Filed: 23 August 2020

U-14 camogs travelled to Bredagh today for their first match of the season. It was also the first time seven of the girls have played at U-14 level.
It took the first period to get warmed up and used to playing again. The weather didn't help with constant rain and slippery conditions making it hard to play flowing camogie. Hard battles were fought all over the field. Our keeper Ellen made some fine saves and clearances and the full back line of Isobel, Tara and Olivia kept moving the ball through the half back line and up to our midfield. Great effort was also put in up front with tireless work from Macie, Cara and Niamh. We were awarded a 45 which was converted from Rona May leaving us 0-1 to 0-0 at the break.

The girls took to the field for the second period. The sun came out and they were fuelled with water and Haribos. Almost immediately a great ball was delivered in by Cara to her cousin Elle who struck it sweetly into Bredagh's goal. This lifted the girls and they started to move the ball around well. For the next ten minutes, balls were being delivered straight to the forwards from our half back line of Sarah, Leah and Sophie. Several shots were taken by the forwards narrowly missing but the effort put in was great to see.

Bredagh then worked the ball into our back line. Bodies were put on the line in an effort to keep the ball out and we conceded a penalty which was converted. Feeling a bit agrieved we went straight up the field with Niamh scoring a brilliant goal. Bredagh scored a further point from play and a point from a free.
Score at the break was 2-1 to 1-2.

The third period was a joy to watch. A few positional changes were made. Rona May started off the scoring with a great goal struck from near the left touchline. Emer and Niamh worked tirelessly in the midfield alongside Macie, Cara and Rona May in half forwards feeding balls into the forward line of Grace, Elle and Oliva who scored a further three goals and Emer and Niamh chipped in with a goal and three points.

When they pushed forward any returning Bredagh balls were intercepted by Lucy in the middle and Leah, Sophie and Sarah in half back. Bredagh made a final push but were held back by Katie, Ellen and Isobel only conceding a final goal and a point.
