Tullylish/Aghaderg (St Colman's) v Newry Shamrocks  Under 16 Football

St Colman's 3-8 Shamrocks 3-11

The under 16 Footballers just failed to overcome Newry Shamrocks in an enthralling finish to the game at Park Esler.
Playing against the wind in the first half our lads began very well, however failed to convert the opportunities that came their way. This led to the Newry lads dominance and taking  an  8 point lead by half time. However, there was a strong conviction within the squad that with assistance of the wind in the second half the situation could be reversed.
This proved to be the case and tribute should be paid to the tremendous  efforts of  Shane Donnelly and Michael Fitzpatrick. Shane moved to a more central role in the middle of the park and his work rate soon paid rich dividends as he initiated wave after wave of attacks. Michael Fitzpatrick worked tirelessly up and down the field and provided some great scores himself as well as for other players.
The play was keenly contested and competitive.  Chris Lennon joined the fray, as the margin was reduced to a single point within 1 minute of play remaining, caution was thrown to the wind in all out attack.  Unfortunately that all elusive score did not come and Shamrocks broke up field to score a fantastic goal just prior to the final whistle.
Great heart and encouragement can be taken from this effort which  augers well for the extreme challenge ahead in the championship.
