U14 HURLERS WIN AGAINST ST PAULS
Date Filed:
07 June 2011
U14 hurlers played at home against St Paul’s of Holywood. It was always going to be a close match after St Paul’s had beaten the Ballyvarley men by a single point in the last minute of the game in Holywood.
Ballyvarley started off well. Michael Jordan who had been moved to full forward position, proved very dangerous and almost immediately drove the sliothar into the back of the St Paul’s net. Connor McPolin tried to shoot as well but the ball went through the side netting. Michael went on to score another goal and a brace of points before coming off in the match due to an injury. St Paul’s did not give up and pressed on the Ballyvarley defence, they scored three goals and two points. Ballyvarley also scored two points from Nathan Jones and a point from Finbar Malumphey.
Half time:
Ballyvarley 2 – 5 St Pauls 3-2
The second half started off with both teams level on points. Niall McGreevey broke through from half back and slotted over a long range point which was followed by another point from Nathan Jones. St Pauls replied with a goal and two points. Connor McPolin won a free around the half forward line which dipped below the bar to give Ballyvarley the lead. In the last ten minutes, the home side stepped up their game. The midfield duo of Louis Murray and Finbar Malumphy kept delivering balls into the forwards. Nathan Jones once again scored a great goal to put the game beyond St Pauls reach.
