St Colmans Win Close Encounter

Date Filed: 07 June 2011

A very close and intense game. This game was definetly a nail bitting experience for management, players and parents alike.
St. Colmans got off to a slow start with getting scores onto the board. Within the first 3 minutes we had 2 attacks on target and putting both wide. Annaclone lifted their heads and saw a great scoring opportunity and scored a 4th minute goal to put the first score on the board. Jamie McAtamney scored a point in the 6th min followed by a goal in the 9th min which came from a display of teamwork from the half back line.
Ryan Donnelly played a ball in from the wing to Cailum Meara in midfield who gave a quick pass to John McAnearney breaking forward. John played the ball into the forward line and Jamie was on the receiving end of a breaking ball as he made his way through from the half forward line to finish the tactful play with a great goal. Although we had a total of 8 wides in the first half and Annaclone were awarded a penalty in the 24th min which produced a goal, we still managed to lead by 3-2 to 2-1 at half time.

Second half was a much closer and intense half. Substitution made Ryan Donnelly came off and Niall Lennon came on. St. Colmans opened with a goal in the 2nd min by John McAtamney followed by 3 goals from Annaclone in the 6th, 10th and 11th mins. Two more points in the 17th and 18th mins were scored by Annaclone without reply from St. Colmans.
The score was now St. Colmans 4-2, Annaclone 5-3 with 7min remaining. Frank McCartan pulled off 2 goal mouth clearances to save us from a possible beating. In the 18th min Jamie scored a point followed by a point and goal in the 19th and 20th min from Aiden McGuiness. Annaclone scored a quick point to level the scores with only 3min on the clock. With only 1min remaining and after a couple of shots wide of the posts, Jamie was awarded a free and graciously took the score that sealed a well deserved result.
Man of the match Cailum Meara.

Final score St. Colemans 5-5 Annaclone 5-4.

A great performance and a well deserved win.
