Very Strong Shamrocks Team Take The Points

Date Filed: 09 May 2011

A very strong Shamrocks side travelled to Ballyvarley. They had previously come from winning games against other local teams with very high scores.
Ballyvarley welcomed back Louis Murray and Liam Conlon from their Easter training camps in the Carribbean and Brazil.
With most of our panel available, Ballyvarley were determined not to get beaten by a cricket score. Shamrocks came out on the attack first and tried to get through the defence. Luckily Ballyvarley’s defence played really well with the trio of Finbarr Malumphey, Niall Daly and Ryan McKay clearing their lines back to the midfield. Unfortunately Ballyvarley conceded sloppy frees from positions where the Shamrocks free taker expertly converted. In the first half, Shamrocks scored 5 points from frees.
There was a glimmer of hope. Ballyvarley also had their share of putting the opposition defence under pressure. Nathan Jones picked the ball outside the box and drilled home a goal. Later in the half Michael Jordan also broke through and kicked in a goal from close range.

Half time score Ballyvarley 2-0 Shamrocks 1 – 6

As in the first half, Shamrocks started off very sharp and once again we conceded a free allowing them to convert another point. For most of this half Shamocks kept Ballyvarley in their own half, they scored three additional goals, two more points from frees , one from open play and a superbly taken 65. Ballyvarley did make it up the other end of the field but the Shamrocks defence were able to deal with the threat. There was one consolation when Connor McPolin slotted over a free for a point.

The first half proved to be a very competitive game however Shamrocks' strength and skill dominated the second half.
