Match Report
Warrenpoint Steal Victory In Last Few Minutes
Date Filed:
03 May 2011
We went in at half time leading 1-10 to 1-4 which should have been more having hit a number of wides.
Our first score came from our centre-back Shane Donnelly who, taking the ball from our backline ran the length of the pitch with a few inter-change passes and slotting the ball between the posts from 25m for a great score.
Michael Fitzpatrick was controlling midfield along with Tullylish player Connor Scullion. Michael knocked over 3 points in the first half.
Leo Doyle was doing well in nets and kicking the ball long outfield. With Shane Donnelly showing a master class in defence things were looking good.
Warrenpoint did break through to score a goal in he first half.
In the first 10 minutes of the second half we still looked in control although the wind appeared to have picked up in Warrenpoint's favour.
It was tit for tat with scores being exchanged but when Warrenpoint came down the field they were finding their range between the posts as we were putting a lot of shots wide which proved to be costly.
It was clear that St Colmans were running out of steam and when Warrenpoint scored a goal it put them in the lead for first time with 5 minutes to go.
From the kick out St colmans claimed the ball which was passed to Michael Fitzpatrick who soloed through and looked to have scored a great point to draw the game but the ref blew for a square ball even though he was 50m from play and Michael having sloted over from 25m.
We had one more chance but the ball drifted wide.
We finally lost out on a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-11.
This was a game we should have won having controlled it for a long period but players can take heart as there were a number of injuries to major players.
Aghaderg players preformed very well.
Leo Doyle in goals having never played in that postion before looking good.
Shane Donnelly in centre-back played out of his skin before being moved up to left-half forward.
Michael Fitzpatrick controlled midfield.
