U14 HURLERS GET THEIR FIRST WIN IN THEIR NEW SHIRTS

Date Filed: 15 April 2011

Ballyvarley U14 hurlers played Clonduff at home on Wednesday night. They had just come off a 1 point defeat by St Pauls while Clonduff were coming off a high scoring win over Castlewellan.

Ballyvarley started off very strong and dominated the first twenty minutes of play most balls coming into their half were swept up by Rory Conway, Niall Daly and Eoin McConville. Anything dropping in the midfield area just seemed to stick to Conal McNally who re-distributed the ball to the forwards and midfield players. Nathan Jones, Michael Jordan and Louis Murray used the opportunity to score a number of goals and points. In the last 10 minutes of the half, Clonduff managed to come back into the game, they added a goal and five points to their score and the game started to look very compeditive.

Half time score Ballyvarley 6 – 9 Clonduff 1-5

To start off the second half, Ballyvarley gave a run out to five subs. This made the game more compeditive in the first 20 minutes and both teams traded points and goals with some good hurling being played by both sides. In the last 10 minutes, Clonduff seemed to get a second wind and converted more goals and points. Ballyvarley looked tired and found it hard to get the ball up the field. Fortunately through some good saves and defending, Ballyvarley held off the attackers and held on to the lead.

Final Score Ballyvarley 9 – 12 Clonduff 6 - 13
