Match Report
U12 Hurlers win Local Derby
Date Filed:
08 April 2011
A good performance in their first outing this year saw Ballyvarley U12 hurlers overcome local rivals Ballela at home.
Things did not start off so well for the reds with an early Ballela attack leading to a goal. The team responded well and a goal and a point from Michael McKey and a goal from Niall Lennon soon had the reds back in control. The forward line were playing well and starting to dominate. Joseph Morgan and Chloe McConville fought hard to win possession and made life difficult for the Ballela backs to clear. Not much was getting past Callum McConville and Liam Conlon in midfield and the first half ended with two further goals from Michael McKey and one from Liam Conlon.
Half Time: Ballyvarley 4.1, Ballela 1.0
Ballyvarley got the second half off to a good start with another point from Michael McKey. Meanwhile the backs were under a bit more pressure But Mark Colgan was dominant here with good support from Sean Stewart, Paddy McGrath and Damian O'Hare. The best scores of the game came from good vision and passing from the reds and Mark Colgan scored two fine points from play. Finbar Malumphy and Conor Brolly were busy in attack chasing every ball and Chloe McConville, who was getting herself into dangerous attacking positions, was very unlucky not to find the back of the net. Liam Conlon finished matters off with another fine goal.
A good performance by the reds against a young Ballela team. The reds will face a tougher task next week against Shamrocks in Newry.
Final Score: Ballyvarley 5.4, Ballela 1.0
