Ballyvarley under 12 Hurlers travelled to Pairc Esler for a return league fixture against Newry Shamrocks.
In the first game, Ballyvarley got off to a slow start and let Shamrocks build up a lead to win the game. For this return fixture, the Ballyvarley men started off at blistering speed and opened with an excellent point from Connor McPolin. The boys kept pressing with tireless work from Stephen McKey and Louis Murray in Midfield from which Nathan Jones scored a good point. Ballyvarley fought hard for every ball and made some spectacular catches in all areas of the pitch. Then there was a period where Shamrocks upped their game. They won a free which was converted into a well struck point. Two frees were also won and converted by Ballyvarley’s Connor McPolin and Michael McKey. Shamrocks responded well but were unable to hit the target except for a well taken goal from close range. Up the other end, Nathan Jones fielded two great balls which he the buried in the back of the net.

After a good team talk from their management, Shamrocks started the second have with determination and opened with an early goal. This was shortly cancelled out by another Ballyvarley goal and a point from Connor McPolin. Ballyvarley started to push the play deep into Shamrocks half. Any balls getting past the midfield were cleared by excellent displays from Ruari Stewart, Darragh Byrne, Callum McConville, Mark Colgan, Sean McEvoy and Liam Conlon. This renewed confidence in the back line and long accurate puck outs from Eoin McConville allowed Louis Murray to press into the box were he rattled in a great goal. He then followed with a point. Connor McPolin, who was on fire, struck a point form the right wing. Shamrocks then went on the attack and scored a good point of their own.
