Ballyvarley U-12's Beat Castlewellan

Date Filed: 28 May 2010

Ballyvarley U-12 hurlers played Thursday night against Castlewellan.  After the victory over a strong Liatroim side, Ballyvarley were expected to win the match.
Unfortunately, our players had plenty of chances but were unable to take any scores and hit several wides.  Those shots that were on target were saved by a very capable Castlewellan goalkeeper.
The only score of the first half came with a well struck point from Louis Murray.   In this game, Castlewellan did not want to play the middle twenty minute match. Consequently, Ballyvarley gave eight younger players at least fifteen minutes play in the full game.  This paid off with a goal from Paddy McGrath and Joseph Morgan during the second half.  This proved enough to win the game with Castlewellan unable to get the ball past our determined back line.  Even though Ballyvarley were unable to take their scores, there were some excellent performances from players including Mark Colgan, Michael McKey and Ruari Stewart.

Final Score  Ballyvarley  2-1   Castlewellan  0 – 0
