Match Report
A Much Improved Performance.
Date Filed:
27 May 2010
Aghaderg traveled to old rivals Dromara in search of their first league win of the season but after a spirited effort they were finally defeated by
1-9 to 0-7.
The management team of Kieran and Pat Lennon are still struggling to field a settled side as the four long term injured Maguire, Comiskey, O,Malley and Lennon remain unavailable while O’Neill and McGivern picked up injuries –v- Mitchels and were also not available.
The game started at a hectic pace with Aghaderg in the ascendancy as Fitzimons and Cathal McGrath won a lot of ball around the middle of the field and after ten minutes two points from Mark McGrath and Keelin Doyle had the visitors in front and in control. However an isolated attack down their right wing seen Dromara creating an overlap and a quick cross resulted in the Dromara corner forward flicking the ball into the net. A free from Devlin brought Aghaderg level and the rest of the first half was to see the lead changing hands a number of times but the half was to end with the scores tied at
Dromara 1-3 Aghaderg 0-6.
The visitors scores came from Devlin , Fitzimons and Doyle while goalkeeper Paul McGrath made a brilliant save low down to his right from a penalty which was taken by the Dromara ‘keeper.
The second half was to follow a similar pattern to the first but Dromara proved more accurate from their scoring opportunities and outscored the visitors by
0-6 to 0-1
to give them a rather flattering winning margin of five points.
The inexperienced Aghaderg forward line were unlucky as they often over elaborated when a more direct route would probably have been more successful and Eugene Devlin was most unlucky when a fiercely struck shot struck the crossbar and rebounded to safety.
Overall this was a much improved performance with many passages of good play throughout the sixty minutes. In defence Paul McGrath was outstanding and his kick outs launched many attacking movements. Martin Fitzpatrick was seen to good effect in both defence and attack. McAlorum continues to improve with each match while the man of the match was Fitzimons in the middle of the field. Stevie won a lot of primary possession and tracked back to offer support to the defence. McAlinden had a promising debut at midfield while McDonald with his pace and industry contributed throughout the match. Devlin again proved a handful for his marker while Doyle and Hegarty contributed well with their pace and effort.
Next match –v- Aughlisnafin @ home Friday 7 -15.
