16 May 2011

Saturday 21st May
Pairc Esler, Newry
2:30pm Christy Ring Semi Final: Down V Kerry
12:45 Lory Meagher Semi Final South Down v Donegal

Feast of Hurling in Newry on Saturday

On Saturday all Down supporters are urged to come out and support the County Hurling Teams in their quest for All Ireland honours when the compete in the semi finals of the Lory Meagher and Christy Ring Cups in Pairc Esler.
At 12.45 pm An Dun Theas take the field against Donegal in the semi final of the Lory Meagher Cup, a game they enter into as underdogs. Donegal who competed in this year’s Ulster Senior Hurling Championship participate in Division 3 of the Allianz League whereas An Dun Theas were runners up to Tyrone in Division 4.
An Dun Theas have made steady progress this year and under the management of Ronan Sheehan will be well prepared for the task at hand on Saturday. It would be a tremendous achievement if the men from outside the Ards Peninsula could pull off a victory on Saturday and what a boost it would be for the Down team taking the field against Kerry at 2.30 in the Christy Ring Semi Final.
The Christy Ring Semi Final is indeed the second game on the bill at Pairc Esler and the meeting of Down and Kerry is the clash of the two form teams in the competition. Down backboned by great stalwarts like goalkeeper Graham Clarke and with an attack that boosts Gareth ‘magic’ Johnston and Paul Braniff go into this game knowing that they can take a step closer to their aim for Christy Ring glory.
We urge all Down GAA followers to make their way to Pairc Esler on Saturday to show their support for these two county teams as they bid to take a step closer to All Ireland honours. These two games on Saturday can be the launching pad for what has the potential to be a great summer for Down in football and hurling, let the summer begin on Saturday, come out and show your support for Down.
Under 16s are admitted free and Group Passes can be organised by contacting the County Secretary.
