Ballyvarley. 2-12 Warrenpoint 2-20
In preparation for the championship a home friendly against the higher division Warrenpoint on a wet pitch saw an entertaining game of hurling for both teams.
With tough and tight tackling the visitors opened the scoring and continued, racking up four points before Ballyvarley got on the score card and then closed the gap to one point. With some great defending from the Ballyvarley defence and a couple of excellent saves from Paddy McGrath kept the home team in the game and the first half finished with three points between the teams .
The second half saw Warrenpoint start the stronger and added another goal and several points before Ballyvarley got going and then took the battle to the visitors but the gap was too big at that stage to close completely with Warrenpoint running out with a comfortable margin.
This though was a good display from the home team against the Division 1 team and will need to show this and more to make progress in this Junior Championship.
