U12 Hurlers Start League With A Victory.

Ballyvarley U-12 hurlers started their league campaign with an encounter at home to local rivals Ballela.
Ballela, who fielded a young team were considered the underdogs for this match.  As expected, Ballyvarley opened the score with a goal each from Nathan Jones and Connor McPolin.
Ballela fought back with a goal and a point.  The first period was then finished off with three points from Connor McPolin.

In the second period, both teams took off their strongest players to allow the younger squad members a game.  The younger players of Ballyvarley took the game to Ballela and dominated with 5 goals from Nathan, 2 goals from Mark Colgan, 1 goal from Darragh Byrne and 1 goal from Damien O’Hare.  Ballela were unable to score.
 
With the strong performance in the middle period, Ballyvarley should have overrun Ballela.  However the reintroduction of Ballela’s stronger players made this period very competitive.  They were able to drive balls from puck outs into Ballyvarley’s  square.   Ballela scored  4 goals and a point while Ballyvarley  scored 1 goal and 2 points from Connor McPolin, 2 goals from Nathan, 1 goal from Ruari Stewart, and 2 points from Louis Murray.
Ballyvarley ended up winning the match by seven points.
 
Everyone played well in this match.  The next match is at home against Newry Shamrocks. Thursday 6th May throw in 7.30pm (be at pitch for 6.45pm)
