Aghaderg Senior Footballers made the trip to Glasdrumman on Friday evening for their first league fixture of 2022.
The
game started at a very fast pace with both sides getting into good
scoring positions. Two quick points from Aghaderg were followed by a
well taken goal by Joe O’Kane who hit the net from a tight angle after
spotting that the Glasdrumman goalkeeper was off his line. Glasdrumman
worked hard to get back into contention and although they came forward
at pace, they were continuously under pressure by a hard-working
Aghaderg back line.
Aghaderg
looked dangerous themselves when going forward and Niall Lennon
finished off a nice passing move with another good goal. After a quick
counter-attack, Glasdrumman replied with a goal of their own late in the
first half to leave one score in it at halftime.
Halftime score: Glassdrumman 1-4 Aghaderg 2-4.
The second half
saw the visiting Aghaderg team begin to dominate more with Louis Murray
and Cailum Meara working hard in midfield to disrupt the Glasdrumman
attacks. The Aghaderg backline also won a lot of possession and began
carrying it forward with purpose with some great runs by Ryan Donnelly
in particular. Aghaderg went on to outscore Glasdrumman by 7 points to 3
in the second half including fine long range efforts from Chrissy
McEvoy and Kelin Doyle.
Final score Glasdrumman 1-7 Vs Aghaderg 2-11.
The hard work
the boys have put in during a long pre-season was evident in this
performance and it was great to get the league off to a winning start.
Well done to all involved.
