Ballyvarley take the spoils in West Down derby.

Date Filed: 20 April 2022

Ballyvarley 0-13 Ballela 0-12 The reds timed their final push perfectly to take the points in this exciting, competitive local derby.

There was nothing between the sides throughout this typically tempestuous affair with the lead regularly changing hands throughout.

Ballyvarley’s indiscipline in the tackle cost them dearly in the opening exchanges and Ballella’s Johnny McCusker and Mark Cosgrove punished them dearly as the visitors raced into a three point lead, but gradually the reds settled and points from Callum McConville, Johnny Lennon and Paddy McGrath pushed Ballyvarley into a 4-3 lead.

Johnny McCusker replied for Ballela to leave the sides all square at the interval.

Half Time - Ballyvarley 0-5 Ballela 0-5

Johnny Lennon pushed the reds into a one point lead just after the restart, but Danny Doran brought the sides level again almost immediately.
Ballela took control midway through the second half and points from Mark Cosgrove, Owen Mc Greevey, Johnny Mc Cusker and Ryan Mc Cusker gave Ballela a three point advantage.

It looked ominous for Ballyvarley at this stage but they timed their comeback perfectly and points from Michael Lennon, Johnny Lennon, Conor Mc Poland and Matthew Malone saw them take the winning lead just before the final whistle.
