It has been a stop, start season for Ballyvarley Senior Hurlers…..actually more stop than start, with random games spaced widely apart.
Sunday, however, marked the start of a series of consecutive games which will hopefully provide some positive incentive for this group of players, Covid and weather permitting, of course.
Portaferry were the visitors on Sunday and, as expected, they provided some classy opposition. The Reds struggled to get going in the opening period and trailed by 0-2 to 1-7 at half time, with their points coming from a Christopher Lennon 65 and an impressive long-range strike from Louis Murray. There was much better fair in the second half and three solo points from Liam Conlon and a goal from Louis Murray matched Portaferry’s 1-3 to leave the team in a better frame of mind at the final whistle.
