BREDAGH 1-20 BALLYVARLEY 1-17.
The
sun shone and the hurling flowed and even though Ballyvarley lost their
first game after the restart, I think everyone left Cherryvale in
buoyant mood after this high-scoring entertainment. Bredagh got off to a
flying start totting up 1-7 with relative ease in the opening quarter.
Ballyvarley were all at sea in that opening period but a goal and two
points from full forward Paul O’Neill kept them in the hunt and they
were relieved to see the water break.
Whether it was the water or words
of wisdom from the management, Ballyvarley emerged a much better team on
the restart and at last we had a contest. Jamie Murray and Paul O’Neill
added further points, but it was the free taking of Christopher Lennon
that was the key feature in this period as he landed four superb
long-range points to leave the half time score Bredagh 1-12 Ballyvarley 1-8.
Ballyvarley
gave their subs a run in the second half and after a poor ten minutes,
the Reds settled down to play some good hurling and deservedly edged
this second period. Chris Lennon and Paul O’Neill continued to get
scores and Michael Lennon, Johnny Lennon and Rory McShane contributed
three great points from play. The chances were there to sneak away with a
win but when the final whistle blew, I think everyone was just happy to
be back in action once again.
