St Pats beat Kilclief by 10

Date Filed: 31 August 2008

U-16 Hurling League:  St Patricks  3-7   Kilclief  1-3
St Patricks maintained their unbeaten run at the top of the U-16 hurling league with a comfortable ten point victory over a tough Kilclief side. The foundations of this victory were laid in the first half when a dominant outfield performance eventually produced three killer goals. Points from Martin Connolly and Aidan McKernan had given St Pats an early lead but they had struggled to add to that until Patrick Macken bull-dozed his way through for the first major score. That score helped relieve the pressure and when Eoin Magee skillfully weaved his way through for two further goals victory seemed to be assured for the home side as they lead 3-2 to 0-1 at the interval.
The second half was much more evenly contested with Kieran Maguire, James Kennedy, Thomas McKernan, Chris Martin and Sean O’Hare giving the home side territorial advantage but scores were difficult to come by and it was left to Tony Hegarty to provide the cutting edge and his four points assured St Pats of another welcome victory in their search for the league title.
