Aghaderg Lose Out To A More Potent Teconnaught

Aghaderg senior footballers
suffered defeat, at home, in their opening fixture in division 2 against
Down Junior champions Teconnaught on a score line of 3-11 to 1-9.
The visitors opened the scoring with a penalty goal in the 6th minute and added
a point from play 2 minutes later before points from Michael Fitzpatrick from
play and a Kieran Maguire free kept Aghaderg in touch. Aghaderg missed several
scoring chances before Teconnaught added another point from play through the
very talented Carville at full forward. Kieran Maguire added a point for
Aghaderg in the 25th minute while the visitors added 1-2 within 2 minutes to
move 2-4 to 0-3 ahead. In the 30th minute Kieran Maguire pointed a 30
metre free to bring Aghadergs first half total to 0-4.
Aghaderg got of to the perfect
start in the second half when a long delivery from Kieran Maguire landed in the
back of the net however Teconnaught, via Carville, replied with points in the
2nd and 4th minutes before Michael McKay added a point for Aghaderg. Further
scores from Carville (1-2) pushed the visitors 3-8 to 1-5 ahead before
Kieran Maguire added another point from a free. Teconnaughts defence held firm
and denied the Reds any opportunity of scoring the goals needed to get them
back into the game however 3 points from Eugene Devlin (2) and Stevie Fitzsimmons
brought the Aghaderg total to 1-9 while Teconnaught also added 3 points from
play to bring their total to 3-11.
