Ballyvarley U12 Hurlers Win in Warrenpoint

Ballyvarley Under 12 hurlers travelled to Warrenpoint on Saturday and came away with a hard fought victory. Warrenpoint started the better and early pressure led to a quick point. Haley Lennon and Louis Murray soon took control in the half backs and stopped further Warrenpoint incursions. Chris Lennon was dominant behind midfield clearing loose balls up field to the Ballyvarley forwards. Maurice McGrath and Michael Jordan were working hard in midfield and their hard word paid off when Maurice won possession and put the ball over the bar.
Hannah Malone was winning most ball in the forward line and the Reds were unlucky not to add a goal to their tally on many occasions. Just before half time Chris Lennon pointed a from the half way line to give Ballyvarley a half time lead of 0.2 to 0.1.
The match stepped up a gear in the second half. Conal McNally, now in midfield, was winning great possession under pressure and driving to the heart of the Warrenpoint defence. Every ball was now contested throughout the field. In attack, Michael Lennon, supported by Eoin McConville, Finbar Malumphy and Dylan McCann were battling hard with Michael unlucky not to hit the net on several occasions.
Michael Jordon was working tirelessly in defence and repelled many Warrenpoint threats. Robert Ellis, Colin McGrath  and Kieran McShane threw themselves into every tackle clearing from the line on more than one occasion. Odhran Byrne was solid in goals clearing several Warrenpoint efforts. As the game came near the end Conor McPolin, playing another great game up front, was unlucky not to score.  With minutes to go James Canniford secured the win with a low drive to the Warrenpoint net. This was a hard fought win for the Reds. Best on the day were Haley Lennon and  Robert Ellis in defence and Maurice McGrath and Conal McNally in midfield.
