Date Filed: 11 June 2008

Under 14 Hurling League
Warrenpoint 3-10    Ballyvarley 2-2

Ballyvarley U14 hurlers travelled to Warrenpoint with hopes of a second victory over the point this season, but the home team was a much better prepared side than their previous encounter.
The home side started the stronger of the two teams notching up early scores before the reds could reply through a Jonathan Lennon point. Soon to follow was a goal opportunity which fell to Ciaron Davis who gathered the ball carried it in to the 21M line and struck a powerful shot only to see just wide of the post. Meanwhile at the other end Chris Lennon was doing a fantastic job between the posts to keep the reds in contention by half time.

Half time score   Warrenpoint 1-3      Ballyvarley 0-1

After the break the visitors were first to raise a flag through Chris McAvoy’s awareness reacting quickly to the goalkeepers rebound and batting a high ball to the net. Jonathan Lennon added a further point to reduce the deficit between the sides.
The Ballyvarley midfield duo began to feel the pressure of crowding when in possession, cutting out the supply to their forwards giving warrenpoint the advantage to score a succession of points without reply. The home side stamped their authority on the game scoring two goals resulting from poor clearances putting the game beyond reach .The reds did however manage to create problems for the defence forcing them to concede a 20m free which Jonathan Lennon rattled to the back of the net.
Best for the reds, Sinead O’Meara and Paedar McGrath in defence the midfield partnership of Aidan McKiernan and Jonathan Lennon also Chris McAvoy and Ciaron Davis battling hard up front.
